Point Point is a Santa Cruz-based game microstudio making maximalist video games with heart! We were founded in 2022 by UCSC undergrad students Alex "alexindy" Rice and Dylan "marigold" Mahler. In early 2023, we were joined by fellow students Annalivia Martin-Straw, Athena Patronas, and Sophie Martin.

How Do I Say This...

A bullet hell about learning what it means to be yourself (2022-2023)

Our current project is How Do I Say This..., a small, coming-of-age bullet hell about a young queer person defining, redefining, and re-re-defining their identity! Dodge and catch thoughts, think fast and think strategically, and choose your words carefully as you slowly come out to those around you. How Do I Say This... explores a queer story informed by real experience and wraps it in a bright, fun, internet-maximalist aesthetic. How Do I Say This... is currently scheduled for release in late-2023 to early-2024!

This site acts as a both a home for Point Point and a place for updates on How Do I Say This, which can found on the devlog page. Assuming Twitter doesn’t implode, you can follow our page there for notifications on when we post new devlogs!

History

How Do I Say This... started as the final class project for UC Santa Cruz’s CMPM 80K, Foundations of Video Game Design. Over the course of a month, Dylan, Alex, and classmates Josh Meyers, Ryan Mick, and Nathan Kim developed a small, 20-minute demo for the game.

Development on How Do I Say This... resumed in summer 2022- at first between just Alex and Dylan- with the goal of polishing and fleshing the demo out into a full game for release. The rest of us joined in early 2023, and the rest is history! We’re all excited to share our progress and our game with all of you! ^_^
